After years of bureaucratic preparation, construction is finally underway!
We have two construction workers hired & on the job. Building materials arrived yesterday. We are moving right along on Jeff's aggressive schedule & the weather has finally cleared & warmed up.
We have completely gutted the Kitchen area; upgrades & additions to plumbing & electrical work are almost complete in both the Upper & Lower Camps; foundations are excavated for the two new cabins & the new bath house; & the Garage Apartment has a new door that is out from under the snow-collecting eaves!

Hallelujah, the road is open!
We had planned to keep the road open this winter with our tractor, but fell behind during one of those big Sierra dumps and lost control (we really need a truck-mounted blower to handle the deep accumulations we get). After this month's warm weather, we were able to plow through the remaining snowbanks yesterday. The melting snow is keeping things very muddy at present, but the soil here dries out virtually instantly once the snow is gone.
Our first visitors of the 2004 season are scheduled to arrive on April 12.

Here's a bit of very excellent & long hoped-for news from the UC Natural Reserve System:
"I am pleased to share the news with you that the Regents Item Designation of Real Property, Nevada County, Sagehen Creek Field Station, Natural Reserve System was approved at the March 17, 2004 meeting of the Board of Regents. We are delighted to welcome Sagehen as the 35th reserve in the Natural Reserve System.
With best wishes,
Alex Glazer"
